On-Campus Transportation

Campus Transit Service

This service operates only on campus and provides door-to-door service 7 days a week, 5:30 pm - 3:00 am to and from any location on campus. To schedule a ride, call 578-5555.

Vehicle Parking on Campus

There is adequate space in all zones on campus, but front door parking is rare. Always park with a current permit displayed, in your designated zone, and within a legally marked parking space. This will guarantee that you never receive a parking ticket from LSU.  Park in the correct zone according to the paid permit for your vehicle:
Blue: Commuter/Resident Zone 1 -- students
Magenta: Greek Zone 2 -- students
Green: East Zone 3 -- on-campus resident students
Purple: Law Zone 4 -- students
Lavender: West Zone 5 -- on-campus resident students
Red: Employee Zone B -- faculty and staff
Yellow: Employee Zone C -- faculty and staff

You can choose a parking permit through the PAWS (on-line) system. Instructions are in your Registration booklet. The registration fee schedule for student parking permits can be found on the website, www.lsu.edu/parking, or in the Registration booklet.

Medical/Disabled Parking

Students who have a medical condition, whether permanent or temporary, that requires close or special parking will be accommodated. Those students who have a state-issued disabled license plate or placard can visit the parking office to get their permit as the state has already confirmed the need for special parking.

Individuals without a state-issued disabled plate or placard must have their condition confirmed through their physician. The physician will need to complete a form indicating what parking is needed and for how long. This document should be delivered to the parking office so that special parking can be assigned. LSU will meet the parking needs of every disabled individual.

Students without disabilities or identified medical conditions are prohibited from parking in designated medical parking spaces.

Bicycling

Bicycling is an inexpensive, healthy and environmentally friendly means of transportation. When riding a bicycle, you are considered a driver. You must follow state and local laws, give signals, obey stop signs, and yield as car drivers do. Regulations have been established to provide for the orderly movement and parking of bicycles on campus. In using bicycles on campus, the rights and safety of others should be considered at all times. Students may be charged with a violation of the Code of Student Conduct for riding a bicycle on a sidewalk or parking or storing a bicycle in a University building.

A Baton Rouge city ordinance requires that bicycles be registered. The fee for this registration is $5. Bicycles cannot be ridden on sidewalks or lawns.

Be sure to check out LSU Bikes, a website created by Student Government to educate students and the LSU community on riding bicycles in a fun and safe manner.

Motorcycles & Scooters

You must purchase a parking permit from LSU Parking, Traffic, and Transportation to park your motorcycle or scooter on campus. Staff at the Parking office will identify designated areas reserved parking for two-wheeled vehicles. If you wish to park outside of the designated motorcycle parking zones, consult with the Parking office for alternatives. Motorcycles and scooters may not be ridden on sidewalks or lawns.
