Baton Rouge Visitor’s Bureau: The official website for travel and tourism in Baton Rouge offers all the information needed by visitors and new residents of the area including accommodations, attractions, shopping, entertainment, and sports/outdoors.
East Baton Rouge Parish Library system: The system contains 13 branch locations with regular literary programs available for the entire family. Events include author appearances, educational classes, and story readings.
Parks and Recreation
BREC, Baton Rouge city parks: The official operator of the public parks and recreation facilities in the area, BREC offers nature, sports, and cultural-themed programs. BREC hosts special programming for youth and seniors.
Baton Rouge Zoo: The Baton Rouge Zoo is home to over 1,800 animals from around the world. The facility offers special programming for youth and families during certain times of the year.
Blue Bayou/Dixie Landin’: Blue Bayou is a water park and Dixie Landin’ is an amusement park. Located next door to each other off of I-10, both parks have a variety of rides and other attractions. Also, the parks host concerts throughout the summer.
Museums
Louisiana Art and Science Museum: Offers educational and entertainment opportunities for visitors of all ages. Featured are changing fine art exhibitions, interactive art and science galleries for children, the Ancient Egypt Gallery, and simulated space travel in the Challenger Learning Center. In addition, the center offers lectures, workshops, and classes.
Pentagon Barracks Museum and Visitor Center: Military barracks used during wars between America and Spain, France, and Britian.
Shaw Center for the Arts: Houses the LSU Museum of Art, the Manship Theater, Brunner Gallery, and the LSU School of Art Gallery. In addition, there is PJ’s Coffee House, Capital City Grill, and Tsunami, a Japanese restaurant.
Baton Rouge Gallery and Center for Contemporary Art: Provide a forum for the arts, especially for professional visual artists to exhibit their art within the Baton Rouge area
Cultural Attractions
Magnolia Mound: A plantation house and museum that houses a historic house museum, an open-hearth kitchen, an overseer's House, a slave quarter house, a crop garden, a pigeonnier, and a carriage house.
Highland Road Observatory: Remote control astronomical observatory for education and recreation in Louisiana
Louisiana's Old State Capitol Center for Political and Governmental History: Houses several interactive state-of-the-art exhibits. Topics include Huey Long, citizenship and voting experience, Louisiana campaigns and elections, and the Louisiana Purchase.
Louisiana State Capitol Building and Gardens: The current seat of Louisiana government houses the Governor’s Office, House and Senate Chambers, and offices for legislators.
